Farm Exhibition  In Sonepur Mela :  Creating a sense of Awareness among Farmers & Agriculturist.

The Sonpur Mela, being the largest cattle Mela of the continent, experiences footfalls in crores, youths being the highest in number followed by farmers. The farmers are not only attracted by the cattle section of the fair but are attracted by the lucrative farming equipment and the exhibitions from different state of the art agricultural research institutions like PUSA.

Farm exhibition has been organised in Sonepur Mela annually by Dept. of Agriculture, govt of Bihar and other Agro based companies , to aware and introduce the farmers and agriculturist of the state with improved farm implements and machinery used for different farm operations to increase the productivity of land and labor. Sonepur mela has been always an  excellent platform to create awareness and introduction regarding modern & modified technique of farming ,as it witness lakhs of farmers and agriculturist footfall. 
This exhibition aims to explain about effective and  efficient use of farm inputs, improvement in quality of farm production, safety and comfort of farmers , reduction in loss of production and drudgery of farmers due to adverse climatic condition and other factors.The officers and employees from the agriculture dept. focus on the use of genetically modified and high yielding breed of seeds , for demo various types of  Agro based plants were grown in prototype . The representatives from  Agro.  based machinery & equipment companies were explaining about farm mechanization by the use of sophisticated and advanced farm based  machines for increasing the production & productivity with comfort and safety .The professor and specialist from different Agriculture university were explaining farmers about government policies and programmes aimed at  making them self reliant through optimal use of land , soil ,water and plant resources by the agriculture extension services.There are around 30 stalls for agriculture machinery exhibition organised by Agro . based companies with the aid of state govt. You  can collect leaflets from almost every stall for future reference . Even seeds and baby plant can be bought at cheap cost. The farming equipment can be booked .Major attraction in exhibition are portable irrigation system, seed cleaning & sowing machine, combine harvesters, portable pumps & pipes, portable  mini tractors , light cultivator & Rotavator, horticulture machinery, plant protection equipment, Rice trans-planters, benefits of organic products , use of genetically modified seeds and various other farm related  micro & macro tools.Good news for the farmers and agriculturists are that state govt.  is providing hefty amount of subsidy on these machines and tools. The stalls from Agriculture dept. is organised to brief farmers about eligibility for getting farm equipment on subsidized rate and procedures to apply for the same.







 Agriculture being the key to overall development for Bihar economy as 77% of its labor workforce is indulged in Agro and farming , further contributing for around 25% of state domestic product. So ,It  becomes very crucial and Important for the concerned department of the state government to aware and introduce its farmers and agriculturist  with the latest innovative ideas of farming and use of advanced and state of the art technology of farming equipment and machinery for higher yields with minimal labor inputs.  
Despite the Farm exhibition and efforts of agriculture dept. ,there are still many farmers and agriculturist in far flunged village who have no idea about subsidized rate of farm machines and equipment, but as a youth visiting Sonepur mela, we can contribute a lot by at least briefing about this farm exhibition to the farmers of our village. 




The last but not the least point is this exhibition is not only for farmers but also for either one who wants to learn about farming ,a lot is there to learn or one who wants to buy colorful flowers or designer plants, it's a great place.
